PAPA PLEIN-AIR LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS
On April 14, 2012, Steve Doherty and Roy Rose were presented with the 2012 PAPA Plein-Air Lifetime Achievement awards at the Plein Air Convention & Expo, Las Vegas (see additional information below). President Gil Dellinger recognized Steve’s support of representational art as a magazine editor, his unification of East and West coast plein-air painters in several gatherings and exhibitions, as well as his commitment to being a plein air painter himself. Past President Kenn Backhaus recognized Roy's leadership as a collector, writer and historian. Read the press releases in the PAPA Press Room.
AND THE WINNERS ARE... Ray Roberts won the Gold Medal for Painting for Waves at Garrapata, oil, 30x40 (left), at the 101st Annual California Art Club Gold Medal exhibition at The Autry, Los Angeles, CA (see more information below).
Ned Mueller won first place for his 8x10 in painting Break Time (right) in the Outdoor Painters Society Plein Air Southwest 2012 juried competition at Southwest Gallery, Dallas, TX. Mueller also won 2nd Place for Last Light, Lagos, Portugal (oil, 12x16) in the 2012 Plein Air Salon announced at the Plein Air Convention & Expo in Las Vegas, NV.
Ray Roberts and wife Peggi Kroll Roberts' exhibition Focus on the Figure at Knowlton Gallery (see below) is featured in the May 2012 issue of American Art Collector.

Scott Burdick is listed as one of ten prominent people making contributions to the art world in the May 2012 issue of Southwest Art. "The biggest change [in the art world] is the resurgence of aesthetically beautiful painting," says Burdick, adding, "Life itself is the only term broad enough to encompass my inspiration."

Kevin Macpherson was invited to submit a painting to a major traveling exhibition of the top 60 Chinese representational artists. The exhibition hangs at the Shanghai Museum through April 17, 2012, and travels to Guangzhou, Beijing, Xinjiang and Hong Kong. Macpherson's oil painting I Heard the Good News (left) measures a whopping 60-by-96 inches.
Frank LaLumia is included in a group exhibition of works about California at Tirage Gallery, Pasadena, CA, through April 28, 2012.
West Fraser is the subject of a solo exhibition of works at the Telfair Academy, Telfair Museums, Savannah, GA, titled "A Native Son: Paintings by West Fraser," which is on view through May 5, 2012.
